Innovative self-service solution for port operations

Metatavu implemented the Design phase for Finnlines’ customer self-service solution, which automates port functions and ensures a seamless and user-friendly self-service experience. The tailored solution improves the utilization rate and service times of customers’ truck fleets and provides them with real-time operational information. Starting Point

The project’s starting point was the development of Finnlines’ port process, ensuring an excellent user experience for all user roles. Previously, there were challenges in the fluidity of truck traffic, and limited gate opening hours, for example, caused problems for customer logistics. The project aimed to develop a flexible and intuitive process that specifically streamlines the daily operations of drivers, logistics companies, and the port.

Actions

The Design phase was carried out in close cooperation with Finnlines, its customers, and various stakeholders. We designed the process to be as smooth and user-friendly as possible, and presented how the solution could be integrated into Finnlines’ overall architecture. The Design phase included service design, user research, UX design, technical architecture, and a business case to ensure the solution met user needs and business objectives.

Outcome

The result was a clear design model and a profitability report, which provides Finnlines’ top management with a clear understanding of the planned project’s potential. The implemented model facilitates application implementation and illustrates the project to various stakeholders.

Customer-centric user experience

The goal of the implementation was to design a mobile application that brings added value to drivers and which they would want to use to handle all necessary transactions directly from their phone – anywhere and anytime. This reduces the need for separate devices, speeds up processes even when on the go, and makes the customer’s port visit even more effortless.
